Our
Mission

Spearhead tackled the silent pandemic of antimicrobial resistance by developing innovative multidisciplinary research-based digital solutions that addressed stewardship and prevention.

Our
goals

Spearhead leveraged big data, machine learning, rapid diagnostics and digital media to help doctors make quick and effective treatment choices, and patients and citizens to become more confident in the usage of antibiotics.

The project has five main goals

1
Real-time data flow to and from decision-makers
2
Utilise rapid diagnostics to identify the right treatment at the right time
3
Leverage big data and artificial intelligence for risk prediction and improve efficacy of antibiotics
4
Early attention to the financial implications of the proposed innovations
5
Empower citizens with knowledge and awareness to make medications more effective

OUR
SOLUTIONS

Spearhead worked to slow down antibiotic resistance through the development of a novel risk prediction
model and rapid diagnostics for doctors that allow for personalized care, while also engaging patients  and citizens for better treatment outcomes.

Spearhead aimed to equip:

Doctor

Doctors

  • A risk predictive model coupled with real-time surveillance to allow data-driven decision making
    in treating infections.
  • Rapid diagnostics to leapfrog a centralised laboratory infrastructure.
Patient

patients and citizens

  • More information and knowledge about antibiotic usage and resistance through more engaging channels such as social media and innovative digital formats.

  • A cost-effective model solution to tackle AMR.

Final Conference

Held on 17 November 2025, the SPEARHEAD Final Event marked the conclusion of a four-year journey of collaboration to combat antimicrobial resistance. The conference showcased key results, lessons learned, and practical solutions developed across research, healthcare, industry, and policy. Together, these insights form a blueprint for future initiatives tackling AMR.

Consortium

Spearhead gathered 13 Swiss-based partners from academia and industry, with multidisciplinary expertise across research in infectious diseases and microbiology, pharmaceuticals, med tech, machine learning and artificial intelligence, innovative design and digital communications.
